Spring is here! As the season starts to get busier, here are some tips for how to think ahead.

Stay on top of your scheduling. This is the first step to ensure the work you have promised to your clients will be completed. Scheduling ahead allows a smaller chance for work to get missed or pushed. This means you are setting yourself up for happy clients!

Work ticket management is important year-round, but especially during the growing season. Managing your work tickets properly results in staying on budget, decreasing revenue variance, and meeting your goals.

Make sure you have enough team members. Once you have begun scheduling, you are able to view how many manhours you need for the month, season, etc. This means you can review your staff and determine if you need to start hiring. From here, if you aren’t quite ready to hire, you can at least prepare by creating a bench of candidates.

With onboarding comes training. If you do not have a solid training program, now is the time to define one. We’ve all been there; it’s the middle of the growing season and you realize you need more people. Adding new employees’ mid-season can be difficult but doing so without a training plan will only make it worse! Improperly trained employees feel rushed and underappreciated, leading to increased turnover.

Once you have enough staff and have a training program incase you need to hire mid-season, you may want to consider how you’ll incentivize your team. The busy season is hard work! Creating buy-in doesn’t have to involve a budget – although company parties, providing food, etc. are great ways to make your team feel appreciated. Aside from those, culture requires more personal actions. View our post on ways to create a strong culture – it starts with you!
