You’ve implemented standard operation procedures, methods of accountability and verification, and you have educated your team. But you still aren’t fully seeing the results. You’re focusing on all the right things! So, the question is, what else can you do to impact your company’s success?
Forbes wrote an article on the two qualities of successful people:
- Successful People are Optimists.
- Successful People have Integrity.
I am a strong believer that a managers (or owners) attitude and perspective feeds into the culture of their team. This is a great tool to take advantage of! Optimism is defined as “the belief that good things will happen to you and that negative events are temporary setbacks to be overcome,” (Mayo Clinic). By being optimistic, the team is more likely to follow suite. On the flip side, a manager with a negative mindset can influence the culture negatively.
Brene Brown describes Integrity as “choosing courage over comfort. You choose what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy. And you choose to practice your values rather than simply professing them.” As a manager, you want your team to make the right decision, in every situation. As their leader, they are looking to you for an example of how to act. Which means it is your responsibility to act with integrity.
Forbes shared that “a person who exemplifies these two qualities will garner significant trust and respect from his or her clients, coworkers, managers, and subordinates – all of whom contribute toward helping that person achieve great success.”
As the owner of a company, your success is the success of the company. By choosing optimism and integrity, you will gain your teams trust and influence your team to make good decisions for the company. Consequently, these characteristics will uplift the culture and help you impact the company’s success.
No matter the challenges you are facing, be positive and aim to live out your core values in every conversation and decision.
